7-19-10 Lightning Bolt, Wolf Eyes, Human Eye, Bad Party @ the mocad
How did I miss every show AT THE MOCAD up till this one? The world may never know. This was one of the hottest shows, everyone was really sweaty. I dont think that stopped anyone from having a good time though. BAD Party played first and this was my first time seeing them. I think they were supposed to play with one of my bands awhile ago but they never showed up. Thats a shame cause I liked the cut of their jib. Messy drum machine and processed all to hell and back bass while some jerk did something with a microphone. It was good. Wolf eyes played the best set Ive ever seen them play ever. Holy shit did it ever rule! EVER! so good. There were a bunch of people doing silly stuff in "the pit" and some guy with his hat pulled over his face got lost and some girl was dancing with glowsticks. Human Eye showed up late and made all the kids happy. That Timmy feller stuck some kind of mutant head over his real head before playing. Lightning Bolt played! They decided to play in the other larger less well ventilated room for some reason. All the kids went nuts and a bunch of feet were stepped on. Lightning Bolt played for 3 hours and then met this old guy in the parking lot who said he used to play guitar for Hard Stance. Success!!

State, Plastic Boyz, Amoebas 3-26-10
This went down at the painted lady, where the Blatz was flowing freely. I got there a bit late, but I wasn't too late to see the Statetotally rip it up. They played some songs off the new 7" called Excommunicated which I'm happy to say is just as ripping as anything from their recent releases. Cripes, this is like the third seven inch I've gotten my hands on from these veteran hardcore punks in the last six months or so. Hopefully they keep churning out the angry little slabs of wax. Kind of a shitty turn out, come on Detroit punks and hardcore kids WTF? The State is not something you should miss. So the Plastic Boyz were supposed to play last, but during the State's set their singer managed to break a glass on the ground, land on it and put a five inch long gash up his arm. More blood than I've ever seen at a show before. So the rest of those Plastic Boys soldiered on and tried to wing it through a set of mostly covers, which was sweet since they had help from the crowd. This really young kid someone told me is in a band called Spookswas snotting it up into the mic for some of it, so I'm going to try to check that band out now. I stuck around for this messy punk Karaoke for a little while, but it wore on my attention span quickly so I went to play D&D. Plastic Boyz had a demo and some totally sweet looking half ass patches i forgot to pick up. oops. Amoebas had a bunch of cool shirts and a 7", kinda bummed I missed them. I'll have to check them out soon.

Deathrats, Death In Custody, Deathskin Razors and Live to Kill 3-21-10
Live To Kill went on first with some grind inspired crusty vocals and a mess of feedback. They did a chinese fire drill and switched instruments twice. Good set, kinda long... cause, ya know, no attention span. Deathrats from D.C. came on next with a brutal and short punk as fuck set. Right amount of feedback for noisy hardcore but still threw in memorable killer riffs and vocals with a ton of energy. Death in custody played next and had the kids throwing themselves around and running into each other with their fast palm muted riffs and whatnot. i had a ton of fun playing our (deathskin razors') set. Oh and this totally didn't actually happen bt there were rumors of a ladder match being organized to get Death In Custody merch. A chicken fight actually did go down though.

March 7th War, Druid Perfume at Painted Lady
Druid Perfume
I really need to get a better camera. Warn Defever played one of the coolest noise sets ever as "war." He passed out tambourines and other shakey noise makers to the crowd before playing some chirpy, weirdo noise stuff that built into a loud crescendo then went back into a semi musical bit by way of an electric harmonica or something. Druid Perfume was next. I have to see them more. It was awesome. Musically it's- almost blues rock-y with a saxophone, but wilder than that. If George Thorogood and the Destroyers took a shit load of acid and other drugs then got possessed and had a psychedelic freak out it would look like this. There was a lot of crowd surfing and weird dancing. Their singer Jamie Easter got slammed into the stage a bunch of times. At one point he grabbed someone, pinned him on stage, started yelling about how he was sick and needed to take his medicine then got all uncomfortably close to him. Then at some other point he ditched his mic in favor of yelling into one of the stage lights he ripped off the ceiling. go see these guys it's awesome.

Bill Bondsmen March 6 '09
So, last night I saw the other band I wanted to see at the Hamtramck Blowout, the Bill Bondsmen. Last time I tried to see them at the blowout totally fucking sucked. Until they finally let us in for free. Still, I vowed never to pay for one of those goddamn wristbands. Oops. So the Bondsmen played a pretty good fucking set. Their guitar player Amado totally jumped up on the bar and pissed off the venue. I'd have a shitty camera phone picture of that if hadn't been too busy laughing. The sound at Jeans totally sucked. I think they played new stuff, but between shitty sound and JOOSE premium malt beverage it kinda blurred.
